When is the RC4 better than the MFT or A4 series? The RC4 is your best option if you frequently encounter "mixed bag" ground. While the A4 is for soft/abrasive ground and the MFT is an all-rounder, the RC4 is specifically designed to handle higher concentrations of rock and harder shale that would stall a standard auger. Note: The RC augers on small excavators may not penetrate clay.

Can I use this auger for solid rock? While the RC4 is excellent for fracturable rock, shale, and asphalt, if you are drilling into solid, high-PSI blue metal or non-fracturable rock for extended periods, we recommend moving to a dedicated rock auger (DR range).

Which drive hub do I need for my machine? This depends on your specific drive unit. We offer the RC4 range in 65mm Round, 50.8mm Round, 50.8mm Hex, and 57mm Square hubs. Always check the output shaft of your drive motor before ordering to ensure a perfect fit.
