The Earthquake stump planer is a tool used to remove tree stumps. It has fixed blades, debris cleaners and a welded on extension bar that is attached to a power source, such as a Digga auger drive. The blade cuts away the stump, layer by layer, until it is level with the ground or deeper as required. Stump planers are a more efficient and environmentally friendly way to remove tree stumps than traditional methods, such as digging them out or burning them.

To use a stump planer, first clear the area around the stump of any debris. Then, attach the planer to the auger drive unit and position it over the stump. Push the point into the stump at the position where you wish to plane. Turn on the hydraulic power so the stump planer spins clock-wise and slowly push down into the stump. Be careful not to go too deep, as you may damage the roots of nearby trees.

Here are some tips for using a stump planer:

  • Choose the correct size for your auger drive; We recommend the 250mm Stump Planer for auger drives from 1000 to 4500 Nm of Torque and the 350mm Stump Planer for auger drives from 5000 to 10000 Nm of Torque.
  • Be careful not to go too deep. If you damage the roots of nearby trees, they may die.
  • When operating your machine have by-standers keep clear.
  • Dispose of the stump debris properly. The most effective way is by composting.

Stump planers are a safe and effective way to remove tree stumps. They are a good choice for contractors who want to add another available task, hobby farmers and acreage owners to remove a few stumps on their property. However, if you have a lot of stumps to remove, you may want to purchase an Earthquake Stump Grinder.

Stump planers are effective on soft woods and some Australian hardwoods that are freshly cut. Not recommended for aged hardwood stumps.
